Light-Emitting Diode vs High Intensity Discharge lighting

Okay so let's break this down.
High end Led lights these days emit around 220 lumens per watt of electricity, and they produce around 3.1umol/J.
But a high end High Intensity Discharge light like High Pressure Sodium, Metal Halide, or Ceramic Metal Halide will only produce a max of around 160 lumens per watt and 1.9umol/J.
So on paper LED is king it produces more visible light and emits more photons per second than a High Intensity Discharge light source.
But keep in mind I have spoken with a number of growers that say High Intensity Discharge lights will penetrate deeper into the canopy vs LED.
