Choosing Material For Hash Production

When it comes to hash production, the best materials are trim, popcorn buds, and small leaves.

Keep in mind that the trim and leaves contain a lower concentration of THC compared to the buds, but they still make up a significant portion of the plant’s cannabinoid content—about one-fifth of all THC produced by the plant.

Stems are generally not useful for hash production, as they contain very few cannabinoids.

With a jeweler’s loupe, you'll notice that trichomes on fan leaves are typically smaller than those on buds. The larger, stalked trichomes on buds have bulbous caps and contain more cannabinoids, making them much more potent for extraction.

If your starting material has visible trichomes, it’s usually good for making marijuana extracts. However, immature material, such as early-stage flowers, will often produce very little extract since it lacks the concentration of cannabinoids found in fully mature material.

For the best hash, stick to using trim, popcorn buds, and small leaves for extraction. Larger fan leaves and immature material generally contain fewer trichomes and cannabinoids, making them less effective for producing high-quality extracts.
